The company paid about 1,68 bln dollars out of 3,3 bln dollars come due
Acting Minister for Energy and Resources, Eduard Stavitsky announced as at February 24 National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine paid gas debt in the amount of 1,68 bln dollars out of 3,3 bln dollars to Russian Gazprom holding monopoly on gas exports, as reported by RBK-Ukraine.
On February 19, 2014 Gazprom said Naftogaz paid more than half of debt for gas import in 2013. Thus, on February 14, 2014 Naftogaz paid 1,28 bln dollars for gas supplied in 2013 and 191 bln dollars – in January 2014. Summing up, 1,471 bln dollars out of total debt amounting to 3,3 bln dollars were paid by the end of January 2014.
On December 17, 2013 Russian Federation and Ukraine signed a supplementary agreement to the gas contract, which contains the provision stating discount on gas supply. Since 2014 the price Ukraine pays for gas supplied by Russia has lowered up to 268,5 dollars per a thousand cubic meters, while before the price of Russian gas made up 400 dollars per 1 thousand cubic meters.
Ukraine expects that the price of Russian gas in the second quarter of 2014 will remain unchanged -268,5 dollars per a thousand cubic meters.
