The UN calls for holding an unbiased international investigation
The Security Council of the UN has approved the resolution on the Malaysian Airlines Boeing-777 crash. All 15 members of the Council voted for the resolution, RBK-Ukraine (РБК-Україна) reports.
The resolution condemns the actions that led to the plane crash, and underscores the necessity to hold a comprehensive impartial investigation of the tragedy.
«We also ask not to change anything on the crash site. We’ve seen separatists using cranes to lift some parts of the aircraft. We ask not to remove any more wreckage of the airplane lying on the crash site», - said UK Permanent Representative to UN Mark Lyall Grant at the UN Security Council’s meeting.
The agenda of the Security Council includes discussion of causes and consequences of the air crash happened on July 17. The meeting began on Monday evening. The day before, on Friday, the UK convened an extraordinary meeting of the UN SC.
A draft resolution necessitates carrying out “comprehensive thorough and unbiased international investigation of the incident and calls on all parties for assisting in tracking down those responsible for the air crash”.
The wording of statements in the final version has been changed to achieve compromise with Moscow. In particular, the cause of the crash of the Malaysian Airlines aircraft defined before as “shooting down” was replaced with a wider and more neutral word “downing”.
None of the Council’s members has exercised the right of veto.
