Since January 12, around 100 thousand citizens have submitted their applications, along with a suite of required documents, to the migration service units for issue of a new travel biometric passport. The majority of the Ukrainian population (some 65 thousand people) has decided to have biometric passports. Above 13 thousand Ukrainians have already become the holders of a new type of travel document, the press-office of the National Migration Service reports.
As of February 2, there have been installed about 426 out of 610 equipment sets designed to process biometric passports. After testing and installation, the equipment will be commissioned, so the passport issuance using new equipment will be launched in the next two weeks.
It is expected that it will take about 20 minutes to accept and process applications and documents submitted by one person, so, taking into account a number of jobs increased so far for migration officers, the migration service can easily meet an increasing demand for travel passports this year.
