On their sitting, the parliamentarians approved at first reading, in principle, draft law No. 2528; this law enters changes to the law of Ukraine on science activity, science and technology activity (as to maintain potential of scientists and teaching staff). 308 MPs out of 226 minimum votes supported the motion, RBK-Ukraine (РБК-Україна) reports.
The law sets out that scientists at work, holding positions as research and teaching staff, have the right to receive/be assigned a pension/lifetime allowance to be paid monthly according to the terms and conditions provided by the law of Ukraine On Science Activity, Science and Technology Activity, and temporary restriction (until January 1, 2016) of up to 85%.
In the opinion of the author of the bill - leader of the Radical Party Oleg Liashko, the country should do everything possible to «save the best minds.» The scientists that have reached the pension age but still participate in research and educational activity deserve aged care paid by the government. Cutting pension payments is a crime”, - accentuated Liashko.
In turn, Lilia Grynevych noted that changes to the pension law that cancelled old age pensions paid to the scientists still working have entailed mass dismissal of teaching staff employed after retirement, however, they play a decisive role in the science advisory board and academic guidance.
