In Ukraine, only 47% of the market is competitive, yet 42% is giving rise to monopolies, 11% of the market has been already monopolized, said Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (ACU) Yuri Terentiev today at his briefing, according to RBK-Ukraine (РБК-Украина).
In Terentiev’s opinion, most monopolistic markets in Ukraine are energy, transport and communications markets.
“That is why one of the first markets the AMC is examining now to find out whether it gives room for competition is the energy market, «said Terentiev.
"The purpose of the study is rather to make an attempt to find out what is really happening but not to search arguments so that to give reasons supporting previous solutions. We need to determine whether the current market segmentation is acceptable. We need to take a look at the practice of the European countries, because they, too, encountered problems with monopolies and restriction of competition in the energy market. They solved these problems about 10 years ago. So, we have a relatively new challenge," said the Head of the AMC.
