The court rejects passenger’s claim
Solomianskyi Court of Kyiv rejected the claim of Maksym Shcherbatyuk, the lawyer with a Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, who demanded compensation from "UZ", after Hyundai Rotem he was taking broke down and the passengers were moved to another train. As a result, the passengers arrived at their destination with a 3 h 40 min delay.
Mr Shcherbatyuk reportedly demanded 1000 UAH in damages, 21 UAH of penalties and 99 UAH for a downgrade on the train.
However, the court dismissed the claim, stating that the tickets did not bear necessary marks confirming train breakage and passengers’ presence on the train. As stated by the plaintiff, during the trip UZ employees refused to put any marks on tickets and communicate with passengers in any way.
To date, none of the passengers was compensated for damages related to the breakdown of Hyundai trains, though Intercity+ trains continue to break.
