The event is aimed to create an open platform for sharing experience between Ukrainian and German lawyers
II German-Ukrainian Legal Day opened 21 June in Kyiv. The second-time event pursues a single goal – to create an open platform for Ukrainian and German legal practitioners, judges, representatives of professional legal associations and authorities to exchange their experience.
Participants are discussing topical issues of regulating the legal profession, the role of trade unions and the law on registration of property. However, in the center of the debate - the theme of "Law" and how it affects the country's economic development.
The Forum was arranged by German-Ukrainian Union of Lawyers with Kurt-Georg Stokl-Stillfried from the German Embassy in Kyiv moderating.
At the beginning of the forum the Ukrainian side took the initiative: Professor of the National Academy of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Zhanna Udovenko raised a lively debate on the shortcomings of the new Ukrainian CCP.
Executive Director of the Institute for Economic Research Oksana Kuziakiv in her speech noted that this year the Ukrainian business climate has been up 15 positions (ranked 137th) in the World Bank's Doing Business rating. The main achievements are improvements in the system of property registration, tax and business transparency. However, corruption remains a key challenge. According to experts, at least 50% of specialists in various fields admit their professional sector is corrupt.
