Event attended by lawyers, MPs, academics etc.
4 July 2013 UNIAN press center hosted a round table discussion on «Energy Security of Ukraine: dissolution of gas contracts in 2009», informs Lions Litigate law firm, with participation by leading jurists, lawyers, MPs, academics and others.
Roundtable participants expressed their different views on possible options for ensuring energy security of Ukraine, and also agreed on the following:
1. Ukrainian government groundlessly does not apply to the Stolkholm Institute of Chamber of Commerce to demand the revision of contracts of 19 January 2009, despite the successful practice by EU companies.
2. Government's claim of inability to review gas contracts bears no legal reasoning and is unjustifiable.
3. Government should take urgent measures to ensure the national security of Ukraine, and defend the national interests of the state and its citizens in response to OJSC «Gazprom» actions».
4. President Yushchenko exceeded powers interfering in gas negotiations in 2008-2009.
Director of Lions Litigate law firm S.V. Batryn comments: Suing against Yushchenko and participating in today's press conference, we wanted to show the members of the European Community that we see a fourth option to solve the crisis in Ukraine, when the society critically assesses Yushchenko’s actions and strongly rejects Tymoshenko’s criminal liability. And in this regard we have the support of the opposition and authorities, independent experts and the public.
