Ukraine seeking new markets

Ukraine is looking at the possibility of increasing sales of agricultural products at the market of the Republic of Korea. This concerns, in particular, domestic corn, sunflower oil and sweets. Moreover, Ukraine is preparing to start exporting meat to the Korean market. This was the topic of discussion at the meeting of the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk and the President of the Association of Interparliamentary Relations with Ukraine of the National Assembly of Republic of Korea Jeong Sik Cho, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food informs.

"It is important that 10-15% of agricultural and food products imported into Korea came from Ukraine. Last year Ukraine successfully started exporting vegetables to Korea. We have good potential for other food products as well. In particular, Ukraine is working on becoming a major suppliers of grain to Korea", Prysiazhniuk said.

He stressed that the quality of Ukrainian grain is already recognized by a number of countries in the region, including China, Japan, and Bangladesh, so it’s about time to enter the Korean market.

The Korean party, on its part, confirmed their interest in buying Ukrainian grain, meat and other agricultural products. South Korea is also considering increasing investments into Ukrainian agriculture.

Mykola Prysiazhniuk also noted that Ukraine is currently preparing to start sales of meat to Korea. For this purpose some Ukrainian enterprises are completing certification process.

"However, we look beyond the market for grain and meat. Ukraine may increase the presence of other Ukrainian agricultural products in Korea, such as sunflower oil and confectionery products", Prysiazhniuk added.

The Minister also stressed that Ukraine is interested in increasing agricultural investment from Korea, and laws are being developed to guarantee the protection of foreign investments, including those in the agricultural sector.
