The investigation of corruption in the scientific sphere, spent in 2016, detected 46 Ukrainian firms, offering to write a thesis.
The scientific degrees are like the Ukrainian currency – they are constantly depreciating.
The corruption and fraud in science and higher education led to the fact that the doctoral degrees, obtained in Ukraine, lost any value even in the neighboring countries, PhD candidate in the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations at Peabody College of Education at Vanderbilt Ararat L. Osipian wrote in his blog for InsidehigherDd.
“The dishonest behavior of teachers, the corruption and fraud in conferment of scientific degrees caused that the scientific degrees in Ukraine are like its currency – their value is constantly depreciating. The Ukrainian doctoral degrees lost any value even in neighboring countries of the Eastern and Central Europe”, the author states.
According to him, the investigation of corruption in the scientific sphere, conducted in 2016, detected 46 Ukrainian firms, offering to write a thesis (for comparison: in 2009, it detected 18 such firms.
