The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada applied to the commission for evaluation, because Ukraine does not have such legal mechanism to submit these draft laws for consideration.
The Venice Commission will conduct the expert evaluation of two draft laws on the anticorruption courts, as the result of which the single draft law will be introduced into the parliament, which will raise the chances for its passing.
The respective request, addressed to Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, was received on July 20, Deutsche Welle reports.
According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andrii Parubii, Ukraine does not have legal mechanism to submit these draft laws for consideration. That is why VR Committee on Legal Policy applied with the proposal request to submit them both to the Venice Commission, in order in autumn they are considered and approved by the Venice Commission.
The testing of compliance with the standards of the Council of Europe will regard to the draft Laws on Anticorruption Courts and On Introduction of Amendments to the Law of Ukraine On Judicial System and Status of Judges on introduction of mandatory specialization of judges for the consideration of corruption-related cases.
