The National Bank supports proceeding with the current program of the International Monetary Fund and beginning of a new program for Ukraine, NBU Deputy Governor Oleg Churii told, Ukrainian News reports.
“For Ukraine, it is very important to proceed with the program of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and to start a new IMF program, because it is the guarantee of implementation of reforms as well as financial and macroeconomic stability”, Churii said.
The current program of financing Ukraine’s economy, using the extended financial facility (EFF) mechanism, started in March 2015, and will last until March 2019.
The total amount of the program is USD 17.5 bln, while Ukraine attracted only USD 8.7 bln from the total amount (first tranche for USD 5 bln – in March 2015, second – for USD 1.7 bln in August 2015, third – for USD 1 bln in September 2016, fourth – for USD 1 bln in April 2017).
The National Bank considers that in 2018, Ukraine will be able to attract other USD 3.5 bln from IMF.
IMF already stated that for continuing the cooperation, Ukraine should adopt the law on privatization, to create anticorruption court, to settle the issue of gas prices and implement land reform.
Within 2018-2021, the annual payment, made for repayment and servicing the public and quasi-public in foreign currency will exceed USD 7 bln per year.
As Ukrainian News reports, in early July, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman spoke for continuation of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund on a new program after completion of EFF program.
In September, Minister of Finance Alexander Danyliuk expressed hope that this program of cooperation with IMF will be fully implemented and will become the last.
