On March 1, the Verkhovna Rada can vote for a new head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Chairman of the Parliament Andrii Parubii said to journalists on Thursday in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“The appointment of the Chairman of the National Bank and dismissal of the previous Chairman of the National Bank is scheduled for Thursday of this plenary session (March 1 - EP)”, Parubii said.
Reportedly, on January 18, 2018, President Petro Poroshenko proposed to the parliament the draft resolutions on dismissal from the post of NBU Governor and appointment of Yakov Smolii for this post.
In April 2017, Gontareva reported her decision to resign. Until now, she is on vacation and does not intend to return to work in the Central Bank.
Smolii is the first deputy governor of NBU. Since May 11, 2017, he has been acting as the Governor of the Central Bank.
According to the Constitution, the Verkhovna Rada appoints NBU Governor upon the proposal of the President for seven years.
