This week, the Verkhovna Rada plans to dismiss NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva and appoint Yakov Smolii as a new governor, VR’s Speaker Andrii Parubii said at the conciliation board on February 26, ET reports.
Reportedly, the official replacement of NBU Governor is scheduled for Thursday.
On Thursday, the agenda of sessions of the Verkhovna Rada envisages the discussion of the resolution on dismissing NBU Governor Valeria Gontareve and the resolution on appointment of YAkov Smolii as NBU Governor.
As Parubii noted, the resolutions will be considered under the complete procedure.
Reportedly, on January 18, 2018, President Petro Poroshenko submitted to the parliament the draft resolutions on dismissing Valeria Gontareva from the post of NBU Governor and appointment of Yakov Smolii on this post.
In April 2017, Gontareva announced her decision to resign. Until present, she was considered to be on vacation and does not intend to return to work in the National Bank of Ukraine.
Smolii is the first deputy governor of the NBI. From May 11, 2017, he was acting as the governor of the central bank.
According to the Constitution, the Verkhovna Rada appoints NBU Governor upon the recommendation of the president for seven years.
