The significant increase in transparency of all state processes will allow Ukraine to decrease the corruption level.
Former Director of the European Departmentat theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) Oleg Gavrylyshyn expressed such opinion during his interview with Ukrinform.
“As the economist, I see the non-transparency as the reason for corruption. The more transparency is needed, though not in one standalone system, but general, especially at IT level. ”, Gavrylyshyn said.
He also emphasized the importance of taking other measures.
“The deregulation, the privatization of land and unnecessary enterprises – all these reforms will jointly decrease the corruption. There is none panacea against it”, the expert noted.
By his conviction, the violators of tax legislation, first of all, deserve financial punishment.
“We should not forget to punish those, who received the largest benefit from the corruption. I support Georgian approach, when persistent non-payers were not put into prison, but were required to repay the tax debt”, Gavrylyshyn summarized.
