Government proposes amending Article 66 of the Land Code of Ukraine
The bill was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on June 12, says the Cabinet’s press service.
The bill is aimed at ensuring the stimulation of peat and lignite sectors of Ukraine by establishing preconditions for further receiving by entities of land plots required for the development of mineral deposits, provided the rights of subsoil use are registered in the prescribed manner. This applies, in particular, to opencast mining of lignite and peat.
It is expected that the bill will encourage entities to implement long-term projects in Ukraine. This will also attract additional non-governmental investment in peat and lignite industries. In addition, it will increase industrial extraction of peat and lignite as alternative fossil fuels, especially by enterprises with a critical shortage of production capacity. The bill will also facilitate provision of rural consumers with cheaper local energy sources.
