UN released a report on fighting against poverty

According to the report, over the past few decades there were incredible changes associated with the development of information - communication technologies. In every region of the world they succeeded in reducing poverty. Countries with emerging market experienced unprecedented growth.
However, inequality still rules in the world. 8% of the rich world's population owns half of total world income. Another part is shared between 92% of the world population.
UN experts say that high inequality undermines development, hinders economic progress, weakens democratic reforms and threatens social cohesion.
In the global average over the past two decades, the extent of inequality increased by 11% - in developing countries, and 9% - in the industrialized world.

The report's authors point out many aspects of inequality around the world, including the disparity between men and women, rural and urban residents. They talk about the disparities in income, employment, education and health.
