Brussels wants to block investments in Nord Stream-2 Project, changing the gas directives, Rzeczpospolita informs, EP reports quoting Polish Radio.
In late November, the European Commission will initiate the review of gas directive – the rules of the third energy package may cover such projects as Nord Stream-2.
As the edition notes, new requirements should relate to all the projects, which will be launched from January 1, 2018.
If such rules come into force, Gazprom will be obliged to fulfil them. It, first of all, will make Nord Stream-2 lossmaking, the newspaper reports.
The consultations regarding scheduled changes currently continue in the European Commission.
“If they obtain support from President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, and most EU deputies and EU governments will approve them, it will signify the end of Russia’s attempts to monopolize gas supplies to Europe, circumventing Ukraine”, the article notes.
As was reported, Lithuania and Denmark are going to put pressure over the European Commission for stricter attitude to Nord-Stream-2 project.
