The European Union will continue economic sanctions against Russia in December without special discussions, the Brussels correspondent of Radio Liberty wrote in Twitter, European Truth reports.
“Currently, it seems that the decision on prolongation of economic sanctions against Russia will be taken without any serious discussions at the meeting of the European Council in December”, the journalist reported.
The restrictive measures were implemented for the first time on July 31, 2014, for one year in response to Russia’s aggression, which destabilized situation in Ukraine. They were enhanced in September 2014.
The sanctions are aimed at the financial, energy and defense sectors and the sphere of dual-use goods.
On March 19, 2015, the lengthiness of sanctions was connected with complete fulfillment of Minsk agreements, which should have been fulfilled by 31 December 2015.
As it did not happen, and taking into account that previously, Minsk agreements were not completely fulfilled, EU Council prolonged sanctions.
