The HO of the National Fiscal Service of Ukraine in Kyiv city informs that Law of Ukraine No71 enacted on 28.12.2014 and titled On Changes to the Tax Code of Ukraine and Some Enactments concerning the tax reform imposes the vehicle tax on some car marques starting January 1, 2015.

In particular, motor vehicle taxpayers imply natural and legal persons, including non-residents, who possess passenger cars registered in Ukraine in compliance with the norms set out in the current legislation. However, only cars driven for no more than five years, with engine size of 3000cc, will be taxed.

The tax rate is to be paid once a calendar year, in the amount of 25 thousand hryvnias per passenger car.

The tax levied on individuals is calculated by the controlling authority (National Fiscal Service) based on the data to be provided to the Ministry of Interior authorities up to April1, 2015. Up to July 1 of the accounting year, the controlling authority charges the tax and sends (gives) vehicle tax notices-decisions on cars to the individuals who possess them stating the address of their residence (registration). Individuals should pay the tax within 60 days since the date of receipt of the tax notice generated at the place of vehicle registration.

Legal persons should independently calculate tax amounts as of January 1 of the accounting year, and file their tax returns at the place of registration, up to February 20 of the same year, with breakdown of payments for a year, per quarter. Meantime, legal persons should quarterly pay the tax by instalments, up to the 30th day of the month that comes after the accounting quarter.
