President Petro Poroshenko met with European Commission Vice President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.
The President thanked EU and personally European Commissioner for the continued support of Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of energy independence from Russia.
The President emphasized that Ukraine is committed to further implementation of reforms in the energy sphere in accordance with its obligations under the Energy Union Agreement and EU Association Agreement. “President, Government and Verkhovna Rada closely coordinate the soonest implementation of reformatory draft laws in the energy sphere”, Petro Poroshenko assured. The President also encouraged the European Commission to make contribution to the Energy Security Fund of Ukraine.
The EC Vice President told about the work, conducted in Ukraine on the way of implementation of energy reforms and emphasized the significance of their implementation. Maroš Šefčovič assured that EU is ready to further support Ukraine on its way to the European Integration.
The parties agreed to complete the approval of the Memorandum on Strategic Partnership in the Energy Sphere between Ukraine and the European Union, which would open the opportunities for participation of Ukraine in the EU Energy Union.
