IMF Allocates Ukraine Next Tranche

Thursday, 15 September 2016 15:49

The IMF Board of Governors passed the positive decision on prolongation of program of cooperation with Ukraine and allocation of financial aid, President Petro Poroshenko wrote in his Twitter.

“A moment ago the IMF Board of Governors passed the positive decision on prolongation of program of cooperation with Ukraine and allocation of financial aid”, according to the message.

“The Fund’s decision opens way to allocating USD 1-billion financial aid on the part of the USA and the European Union – macrofinancial aid, amounting to additional EUR 600 mln, other international financial organizations”, he wrote in his Facebook.

Also, according to him, it opens the window of opportunities for attracting foreign investments to Ukrainian economy, the Economic Truth reports.

As reported in the message, all this will allow maintaining hryvnia stability, fixing macroeconomic stabilization and supporting the first sprouts of economic growth.

“Within the budget 2017, the draft estimate of which will be presented soon, we will be able to take first steps on raising social living standards”, Poroshenko said.

“However, globally, this story is not about money. The IMF positive decision demonstrates that world recognizes that the reforms are implemented in Ukraine, that Ukraine has qualitative and positive changes and the country is moving in the right direction”, he wrote.

“And, surprisingly, the Fund’s resolution is also the signal to the aggressor, who attempted to put a spoke in the wheel even at the session of IMF Board of Governors. Russia’s attempts to disrupt IMF solidarity with Ukraine and derail the decision on tranche failed. The Kremlin lost in this operation”, according to the message.

The amount of tranche, according to preliminary estimate, is about USD 1 billion.

As it was reported, the National Bank of Ukraine expects that the funds of the third loan tranche from IMF will be fully directed to state reserves.

In addition, NBU considers that the third tranche will be not the only one this year, and in case of successful cooperation with the Fund, in December, Ukraine will be able to obtain one more tranche, amounting to about USD 1.3 bln.

It should be reminded that the previous day Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Anton Siluanov claimed that Moscow will vote against allocation of the next EFF loan tranche to Kyiv.
