For the first time for 50 years, US President Barak Obama nominated the candidate for the post of US ambassador to Cuba, this is Jeffrey DeLaurentis, the White House reports. Now the diplomat at this post should be approved by US Senate, according to RIA News materials.
“Today I am proud to announce about the appointment of Jeffrey DeLaurentis, he will become the first US ambassador to Cuba for over 50 years”, White House reports, quoting Obama’s statement.
The President also expressed hope that this appointment will have critically important significance for further normalization of relationships between the United States and Cuba.
