The Verkhovna Rada refused once again to include into the session’s agenda the government’s draft law on return of stolen assets to the state, EP reports.
Speaker Andrey Parubii put this decision to vote several times, emphasizing that it refers not to the consideration of the draft law, but to its inclusion into the session’s agenda, however each time less than 200 deputies voted for it.
“This is a bad sign for starting our work, colleagues”, he said in the end.
On September 14, the Cabinet of Ministers reportedly approved and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada the draft law on special confiscation, which allows seizing criminally obtained funds and other assets through the pretrial process.
The deputies already attempted to previously include it into the agenda, however they did not succeed.
The Cabinet of Ministers included into the state budget for 2017 the revenues from special confiscation of corrupt officials’ funds, amounting to UAH 10.5 mln.
Previously several draft laws on special confiscation of the property, stolen by the previous authority, were proposed, however neither of them found any support from deputies.
The main argument of critics of such draft laws is the fear that it will allow to deprive ordinary people of their property without any impediments and they will not be able to defend themselves.
