The European Council agreed to cancel the visa regime with Ukraine.
Thus, he acknowledged the unofficial agreement, which Malta, presiding over EU, managed to reach with the European Parliament in the case of liberalization of visa regime for Ukraine. In compliance with the agreement, Ukrainian citizens, who have biometric passports, will be able to travel through EU countries without visa for the period of 90 days within 180 days, POLSKIE RADIO reports.
«Ukraine fulfilled the conditions of visa-free movement, and we also made efforts to release Ukraine from visa obligation», Malta’s Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abel emphasized.
The ambassadors of EU countries acknowledged the understanding on behalf of the European Union. The European Parliament should also vote for this regulation in the first reading, and then it will be returned to the approval of the European Union.
The new rules will not apply to Ireland and Great Britain. In accordance with EU agreements, both countries regulate the visa policy with its own legislations.
In last February, the Parliament of Netherlands ratified the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. Thus, the last obstacle for signing the Association Agreement disappeared.
