Working towards bringing national legislation in line with EU requirements

Work continues to bring national legislation in line with the European requirements, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov announced during the session of the Cabinet of Ministers 28 August 2013, as reported by the press service of the Cabinet.

In particular, the Government will study the concept of the National Programme for small and medium entrepreneurship over the next 10 years. This should strengthen the position of SMEs in the overall national economy, enhance its efficiency, promote development of innovative entrepreneurship etc.

The Cabinet of Ministers is going to adopt changes to 20 technical regulations in order to introduce the requirement for mandatory compliance of national standards with European technical regulations.

"This will allow entities to simplify the procedure for entering the product into circulation through mutual recognition of conformity assessment at the national and European level, as well as at the intergovernmental level - due to uniform technical product requirements", Azarov said.

The Government will also study the bill on state control in ensuring safety and quality of food and feed, which will harmonize the legislation of Ukraine with the EU Directives and Regulations. Draft regulates issues of monitoring the safety and quality of raw materials for food production. Such control will simplify the access for Ukrainian producers to the EU markets.

Moreover, to improve legal regulation of international relations the Government is considering the concept for ethnic policy of Ukraine, which sets out its principles, goals, objectives and directions, and takes into account international norms and standards for the protection of rights and freedoms of man and citizen.
