The European Union permitted to use five genetically modified products for manufacturing food and forage products.
Thus, the European Commission granted five permissions to use genetically modified crops for production of food and forage products, the European Commission told, liga.net reports.
It refers to two types of cotton and three types of corn.
These GMO crops underwent full approval procedure, including the receipt of the positive scientific opinion of the European Food Safety Authority. They did not obtain any objections from EU member countries in the permanent and appellate committees.
The permissions are valid for 10 years, and any products, manufactured from these GMO crops, are regulated by stringent EU marking and tracking rules, according to the message.
Previously, 107 Nobel prize winners signed the petition to Greenpeace with the appeal to stop anti-GMO campaign.
