The European Commission is ready to provide a new macro-financial aid package, amounting to 1 billion euros, to Ukraine, in spite of incomplete fulfilment of requirements of the previous program, Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said when giving comments to Radio Liberty.
According to him, the European Commission is ready to finally approve the aid package for Ukraine next week.
“We already discussed it at the end of the previous year, when the previous program ended and, unfortunately, we could not pay the last tranche, amounting to 600 million euros, as not all terms were fulfilled”, he said.
“Therefore, we prepared another program of the macro-financial aid, amounting to 1 billion euros, in two tranches, 500 million each. That is why now, we launched all necessary procedures”, Dombrovskis told.
He hopes that the European Commission will start providing financial support to Ukraine under a new program at the beginning of autumn.
Dombrovskis noted that, according to the European Commission, for obtaining the first tranche, Ukraine should fulfill the terms, which were not fulfilled under the previous program of cooperation.
It should be reminded that on February 28, Minister of Finance Alexander Danyliuk stated that the European Commission approved a new macro-financial aid program for Ukraine.
Reportedly, in November 2017, President Petro Poroshenko stated about reaching agreement regarding a new program of EU’s macro-financial aid to Ukraine for 2018-2019.
Previously, the Ministry of Finance estimated the amount of new program at 18 bln euros.
It corresponds to the amount of approved EU’s macro-financial aid, the period of which expired in January 2018.
Within the previous program, Ukraine obtained two tranches, totaling 1.2 bln euros out of 1.8 bln euros.
The European Commission denied providing the third tranche, because the country’s authorities fulfilled only 17 out of 21 previous terms.
