Cooperation priorities defined
19 November 2013 the National Bar Association of Ukraine and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of free legal aid, the press service of the Ministry of Justice informs.
Five priority areas of cooperation have been identified: information interaction; safeguards of legal practice and protection of lawyers' professional rights, development, approval and implementation of quality standards for provision of legal aid, monitoring and evaluating the quality of legal aid provided by lawyers, advanced training of lawyers.
Memorandum will be valid for five years.
- As the system of free legal aid in terms of the relationship between the state and the legal profession is one of the most liberal not only in our region but also across Europe, in practice the implementation of the law "On legal aid" raises a number of issues that cannot be unilaterally regulated neither by the Ministry of Justice nor the Council of Lawyers of Ukraine as supreme authority in between congresses of lawyers. Hence the initiative to sign a memorandum - a unique joint program document - said the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olena Lukash.
- Memorandum is intended to solve urgent problems that emerged. Provision of free legal aid allows young lawyers to get invaluable experience, - Head of the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine Liliia Izovitova stressed.
