The Ministry of Justice put up for public discussion draft amendments on improving the legislation on elections, informs the agency’s press-service
The draft was reworked following the first public debate in April and May this year, and according to the opinion of the Venice Commission and OSCE / ODIHR provided to the specified project and approved by the Venice Commission 14 June 2013.
Adoption of the relevant law is expected to help overcome the shortcomings registered in Ukraine's parliamentary elections on 28 October 2012, and improve legislation on elections of people's deputies of Ukraine, taking into account the conclusions and recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission for monitoring the elections of people's deputies of Ukraine 28 October 2012, and other missions of official observers from foreign states and international organizations.
The project was also designed to implement priority actions for the integration of Ukraine into the European Union in 2013.
