1 July 2013 Ukraine’s Code of Civil Defense, adopted by the Parliament last October, took effect
Civil Defense Code of Ukraine provides for emergency response, single state system of civil defense; defines the powers of state power and local self-government and the rights of citizens, enterprises, institutions, organizations, etc..
The Code, inter alia, spells out the classification of emergencies: man-made, natural, social and military, national, regional, local and facility-level.
Civil defense forces include: operational and rescue service of civil defense, emergency services, forces of civil defense; specialized civil defense services, fire and rescue units (departments), volunteer forces of civil defense.
From the date of entry into force of this Code of Civil Defense, Law on Fire Safety, Law on structure and number of troops of CD, Law on CD troops of Ukraine, Law on Emergency and Rescue Services, Law on the Protection from Emergencies, Law on Civil Protection lost their validity.
