National Council believes current restrictions insufficient
Public Board of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting appealed to the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to amend the legislation to ban alcohol advertising on television, as per the National Council’s statement.
As stated in the appeal of the Public Council, alcohol producers use loopholes in the law on advertising, which allows them to bypass the restrictions set by law for advertising their products from 6.00 to 23.00. In particular, one of the most common ways to circumvent the restrictions is sponsorship of television projects.
Also National Council discusses imperfect law «On Advertising». In particular, producers of alcoholic beverages are registered also as producers of soft drinks or food, and promote their brand name.
In this regard, the public board of the National Council on Television and Radio, asks President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to submit to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law that would make impossible the presence of alcohol advertising on TV and radio.
