In his annual speech the chairman of the Bill & Melinda fund, Gates spoke on three myths that hamper the fight against poverty in developing countries: poor countries are doomed to remain poor, foreign aid - is a waste, saving lives leads to the overpopulation of the planet.

Gates said that the situation in the world today is the most favorable in the history of mankind. The length and quality of life significantly increased, and after 20 years the situation will become more positive. Thus, the citizens of almost every country are to have income at average level and more. Poor countries will be developed, taking the experience of their neighbors, using modern technologies, such as new vaccines, digital technology, and new products in the field of agriculture.

Gates sees danger is that people focus on the bad news, not noticing the progress which has been achieved. People become less generous and refuse to take steps to improve the situation in the world. In turn, in 1997 Gates Foundation sent $ 28.3 billion for grants to implement global programs in health, development and education in the United States.
