The company's founder, Bill Gates, said that he is leaving the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors. He will continue to work with the company as a technical adviser. In 2008 Bill has resigned from post of director general to engage in charity, as reported by The Economic Times.
Place of Bill Gates in the council will be occupied by an independent director, John Thomson. And the Gates Foundation will work as founder and advisor of technology. He will advise the Director General on strategic issues.
Recently, Microsoft co-founder retired and devoted all the time to the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which was founded in 1994. However, Bill is ready to get down working on innovative projects of Microsoft.
Apart from reshuffling the board of directors, Microsoft has appointed a new CEO. In August 2013 Steve Ballmer, who held this post until yesterday, announced his intention to leave the post in 12 months. After a long search, his place was given to the former vice president of corporate services and cloud services, Satya Nadella Injun.
To date, Satya worked at Microsoft for 22 years. Now he will take over a responsible position in a challenging period for the company. PC's are loosing for portable devices. For Microsoft, this means lower profits from sales of software developed for computers.
The new director will have to compete with giants like Apple and Google. In addition, Nadella has fundamentally changed the strategy chosen by Ballmer last year. It included the purchase of Nokia and Microsoft conversion from service provider to equipment provider. In addition, he will increase the share of Microsoft in the consumer goods market. Experts believe that Sathya has enough skills to lead Microsoft. However, they are not sure whether he can change the direction of the company in accordance with the requirements of the market.
