Leaders to Ponder Fourth Industrial Revolution in Davos

The participants of the World Economic Forum (WEF), opening in Swiss Davos on Wednesday, will discuss the issues of conducting the Fourth Industrial Revolution amid the difficult financial situation worldwide, UBR reports.

The international forum, which will be held during January 20-23, has gathered more than 2500 participants from 100 countries, not including 40 heads of states and governments. The main topic of this forum will be the Fourth Industrial Revolution. International representatives will discuss the issues of refugees and migration policy, geo-economic challenges, global security, healthcare, education, topics of gender differences and climate change.   

This year the European Union will not be represented by the highest-ranking officials. Neither President of the European Council Donald Tusk, nor President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker plan to participate in the forum. However, the forum will be visited by 12 European commissioners, including First Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn, Vice President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici. 

The US Vice President Joe Biden, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Laurent Fabius, Vice Prime Minister of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, President of Greece Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Head of Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Austria's Minister for Foreign Affairs Sebastian Kurz, President of Germany Joachim Gauck, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Prime Ministers and Ministers of counties of North Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa  will also participate in the forum.

Special expectations are associated by journalists and forum participants with arrival of Irani Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Davos. As it is expected, on Wednesday for the first time the Minister will speak to the large audience after lifting international sanctions from Teheran.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Director General of the International Organization for Migration Willian Lacy Swing, United Nations High Commissioner for Human RightsZeid Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer and others will participate on the part of international organizations.

On January 20-22 President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will visit Switzerland with working trip for participation in WEF. During the three-day visit the Ukrainian President intends to meet with the Managing Director of the IMF Christine Lagarde,  President of the ICRC Peter Maurer, Prime Minister of Netherlands Mark Rutte as well as with leading representatives of international investment and business circles. Poroshenko intends to raise issues on disbursement of the next tranche of financial aid, attraction of investments to the country as well as discuss the situation in Donbass.

During WEF the Head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius intends to hold meetings with ministers of trade of the USA and Canada Penny Pritzker and Chrystia Freeland as well as the EU Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström for discussing issues of “trade war” of Kyiv with Moscow.
