The EU high ranking officials plan to discuss the visa-free regime and defense mechanisms, RBC-Ukraine reports.
EU countries consider a new policy, which will allow the block to promptly suspend, if necessary, or even to cancel the visa-free regime agreement, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing the “French-German document”, brought to attention of the edition.
This document included a range of proposals, which will expand EU capabilities on suspension and cancellation of visa-free regime agreements. However, this “protective mechanism” can be criticized by such countries as Turkey, Ukraine or Georgia.
According to the document, after the conclusion of the agreement on visa-free regime the European Commission will have to regularly report on how its granting conditions are fulfilled. The efficiency of combatting corruption, organized crime, document forgery, illegal border crossing, cooperation on returning illegal migrants are among the possible criteria.
Diplomats emphasized that the French-German document is a starting point for discussions.
“If this draft is approved, it will significantly expand the capabilities of EU countries on suspension and potential cancellation of agreements on the visa-free regime”, Norman reports.
It should be reminded that previously Deputy Head of the Executive Office of the President Konstantin Eliseev informed that the European parliament is ready to speed up the process of liberalization of the visa regime Ukraine-EU.
