Russia was not included in the list of main threats to US homeland security, Foreign Policy reports quoting DOD’s document, received by journalists, RIA News reports.
The analytical note of US Department of Defense was drawn up in compliance with the ranking of priority policy directions of the future administration in terms of security. The ranked list of “threats” was delivered to Pentagon by one of representatives of the transition team of US President-Elect Donald Trump.
The note says about the opposition to ISIS Group (prohibited in Russia), the development of a new concept of cybersecurity and necessity of reduction of budget deficit. In addition, it mentions the daily briefings for members of Trump’s transition team, which touched upon the questions of relationships with China and North Korea. “However, the note does not contain any mention of Russia”, the edition reports.
Within the context of strained relations between countries, the journalist finds this fact worthy of special attention. In confirmation of his position, he provides the recent statement of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Danford: “If you want that I include the state, which poses direct threat to the USA, I will include Russia”.
According to the journalist, the analytical note is one more evidence of the upcoming shift of US foreign policy focuses.
