13,000 users of Coinbase, the popular U.S. online platform for buying, selling, transferring, and storing digital currency, received notification that according to the ruling of U.S. Federal Court for the Northern District of California, the company has to submit their data to U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Finance.ua reports quoting CNN.
First of all, the decision touched the users, who carried out transactions, totaling over $ 20,000 within a year. However, Coinbase considers that it is the partial victory, as IRS initially demanded the data of half a million users what the company successfully challenged in courts.
IRS requested the following data: “taxpayer identification number, name, date of birth, home address and list of transactions, carried out during 2013-2015”.
