U.S. considers that the car import ruined the internal car industry within the decades.
U.S. President considers the possibility of imposing 25% duty on the import of cars, trucks and spare parts for protecting U.S. auto industry, Reuters reports on Thursday, May 24, Correspondent.net reports.
It is noted that this issue is already submitted to U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross for elaboration. After the meeting with Trump, he made statement that according to some data “within the decades, the foreign import ruined our internal car industry”.
Now, the Department should reply to such question: Can the decline in this industry pose threat to U.S. homeland security? Wilbur Ross promised that the investigation will be “thorough, fair and transparent”.
It is also reported that new duties can become especially painful for Asian car producers, including Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Hyundai, which consider U.S. as their major market.
“This announcement caused a widespread sale and clearance in all U.S. states”, the agency reports.
