The foreigners actively invest in Kazakhstan’s economy. On a year-on-year basis the investment portfolio of the external sector increased by 25%. For 2.5 years, the share of overall foreign investments did not decrease less than 20%, remaining lower than 50%.

For 7 months 2016, the Kazakhstan’s economy obtained more than 1.3 trln tenges of foreign investments, which is by 25% higher than for the same period of 2015. For July 2016, Kazakhstan’s economy received 181.1 bln tenges (by 5.3% higher than the results of July 2015). Meanwhile, the foreign investments made up only 28% in the aggregate amount of all equity investments (646.9 bln tenges for July 2016). It should be noted that for the period starting from early 2014, the share of external investments was 46.8% (January 2015).

The investments from the state budget, the amount of which increased by 6.8% (+7.6 bln tenges) versus June 2015, played additional role in decreasing the share of foreign investments, except for the growth of potential for own self-investment of enterprises, while retaining the growth of their aggregate money volume.

The foreigners choose the oil extraction industry as the key sector for investment, which is drawn from the regional structure of investments of the external sector. The foreigners made more than 50% of all investments to RK for 7 months 2016 in the Atyrau region. Meanwhile, the Atyrau region was one of four regions, in which the share of foreign investments exceeds 50% (and is 61.3%). Only the West Kazakhstan region, bordering with Russia, demonstrated higher value – 68.5%.

Two other near-border regions – Kostanai and North Kazakhstan – are in the least demand among foreigners. The Kazakhstan’s external funding sources allocated two regions less than a half percent from the total amount of their investments.
