At US presidential elections, Republican candidate Donald Trump received 276 votes of the members of the Electoral College with necessary 270 votes, Forbes.ru reports quoting Bloomberg. His rival, Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton, won 218 votes.
Wisconsin gave ten votes to the billionaire. In total, the businessperson won in 25 states, including the key states of Florida and Ohio, scoring 49.1% vs. 47.7% and 52.1% vs. 43.4% respectively. He has also taken a lead in Pennsylvania – 48.9% vs 47.6% and North Carolina – 50.5% vs 46.7%. The Republicans also retained control over the House of Representatives (233 vs 170 seats) and the Senate (51 vs 47 seats).
As Reuter reports, both candidates had historically low ratings, though Trump enjoyed less popularity than Clinton did. According to Reuters/Ipsos surveys, in early November, the former Secretary of State scored 44% vs 39% of the Republican.
The agency adds that Trump’s victory causes concerns of investors, who fear economic and global uncertainty. At the vote counting night, S&P 500 index plunged by 5%, which means that it will not plunge lower until the trading opening on November 9.
After Trump’s chances for winning presidential elections increased, the Mexican peso dropped to the historically lowest level. It was caused by Trump’s threats to terminate free trade agreement with Mexico and impose tax on money, forwarded by Mexican migrants homeward, and to build the wall on the border between two countries at the expense of those collected funds.
