112 Ukrainian universities made the list
In the second quarter of 2013 the Scopus database included 112 higher educational establishments from Ukraine, 8 more compared to July last year, Osvita.ua reports.
University ranking is based on indicators of Scopus database, which is a tool for tracking citation of scientific articles published by the institution or its employees in scientific journals. At present, Scopus continuously indexes more than 18 thousand scientific publications in technical, medical and humanitarian sciences.
The rating chart presents Ukrainian universities according to Hirsch index - a quantitative measure based on the number of scientific publications and citations of these publications.
In the second quarter of 2013 the Scopus database included 112 higher educational establishments of Ukraine, 8 more compared to July last year.
Since last year, top 20 remains virtually unchanged. As before, the highest scores are seen at Kyiv National Shevchenko University - 64, Kharkiv National Karazina University - 47 and Lviv National Franko University - 39.
Odessa National Mechnikov University and the National Technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» still occupy fourth and fifth places.
Chernivtsi National Fedkovych University rose to the sixth place, shifting Donetsk National Gorky Medical University.
Also, Lviv National Galician Medical University came in 13th, improving its result by two positions. Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology has improved its result by one position placing 16th.
National University of «Kyiv-Mohyla Academy» (19th place) and Sumy State University (20th) made the top twenty for the first time.
