US President Barak Obama will consider some measures in response to hacks of sites of US governmental organizations, of which US Department of Homeland Security officially accused Russia. Not all of these measures can be made known to public, White House Press-Secretary Josh Ernest said, BBC reports.

“The President has several options of response measures, and he will consider those, which he will find proportionate”, Ernest told reporters.

“It is entirely possible that the President will choose one of the options, which we do not announce in advance”, he added.

Previously, on Tuesday, in reply to the question about cyberattacks Special Representative of RF President for Cybersecurity Andrei Krutskikh said that US authorities’ messages about Russian hackers are intended for “internal use”. 

“Neither official channels were involved as well as neither addresses were made. This points to the fact that Americans did it all for internal use”, he said.

“USA does not want to slow it down while forcing charges”, the Special Representative added.

On Friday, US Department of Homeland Security and National Intelligence Agency made joint statement, in which they officially accused Russian authorities of organization of cyberattacks on US political structures. The statement of these institutions is available on their sites.

The agencies specified that it refers to the publication of electronic correspondence of US politicians on DCLeaks and WikiLeaks as well as activities of hacker, nicknamed Guccifer 2.0, who took responsibility for hacking servers of the US Democratic Party. 

“We are sure that taking into account the scale and the complexity of these attacks, these actions could have been authorized only by Russian state officials”, according to the statement.

The purpose of cyberattacks was the attempt to affect the electoral process.
