Several German politicians at once claimed on Monday that they fear attempts of hackers – including Russian – to derail general elections in Germany in 2017, BBC reports.
“There is a danger – including for Bundestag elections in 2017 – of targeted hacker attacks from outside with the purpose of manipulation of facts and opinions”, Member of Parliament from the Christian Democratic Union Wolfgang Bosbach said.
Member of Parliament from the Social Democratic Party Rolf Mützenich did not exclude such threat. “During the campaign, we also have to face misrepresentations and false news”, he added.
Representative of the Christian Social Union Stephan Mayer considers that hacker attacks on parties and factions as well as information misrepresentation campaigns will be enhanced.
Last year, the sites of Chancellor of Germany Angel Merkel and Bundestag were hacked. The group of hackers called CyberBerkut took the responsibility for this hacker attack.
Then Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk accused the Russian intelligence services of hacker attacks on German governmental servers.
Previously, on Monday, US President-Elect Donald Trump said that the statements about probable involvement of Russian hackers in cyberattacks during the presidential elections are groundless. He considers that if hackers were not caught in the act, then it is difficult to determine who carried out attack.
