Robert Mueller should ensure the independence of this probe.
US Department of Justice appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as the special prosecutor for probing Russia’s interference in presidential elections and the questions, associated with them, according to the Department’s site, Correspondent.net reports.
One of Mueller’s tasks at this position will be the study of “any ties and interactions between Russian government and the persons, associated with US President Donald Trump election campaign”.
“The public interest requires assigning this probe to a man, who has certain independence from regular command hierarchy”, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein noted.
As Correspondent.net reports, in January, US intelligence published the report about Russia’s hacker attacks, aimed at interference with presidential elections.
The mass media also reported that President of Russia Vladimir Putin personally interfered with US elections. The analytical center of RF government developed the plan on interference with presidential elections.
Later, US President Donald Trump allowed for Russia’s interference with the election campaign 2016 through hacker attacks, but ruled out the possibility of conspiracy among his election campaign team with Russian intelligence agencies.
