U.S. President Donald Trump presented a new federal initiative on supporting the teaching of STEM disciplines, including programming, at schools of the country. As per his order, the Department of Education will annually allocate grants for digital education, amounting to $200 mln, Finance.ua reports quoting HIGHTECH.
The President and his daughter and advisor Ivanka Trump will conduct a meeting with IT business representatives in Detroit – Amazon, Facebook, Google, GM, Quicken Loans, Salesforce and others, to discuss opportunities of computer science stimulation in classes, Recode reports quoting the informed sources. The total amount of their financial participation and other details are not revealed yet.
In phone conversation, Ivanka Trump emphasized that however the new campaign aims to ensure that “each student in the country, from rural communities to central districts of big cities,” will have access to the tools, which will help him to prepare for digital work. “Taking into account the increasing role of technology in U.S. industry, - she continued – is vital so that our students superficially program and start familiarizing with these subjects earlier”.
Trump’s campaign continues the initiative of his predecessor, President Barack Obama, who planned to accelerate digital education through the program Computer Science for All, which also relied on charitable funds and IT companies. However, its main element - $4 bln from the federal budget – was not approved by the Congress.
