The European Commission wants that the regulations of the third EU’s Third Energy Package are also applied to Nord Stream 2. It is reported that EC will present these proposals on November 8.
The European Commission (EC) will propose applying the regulations of EU’s Third Energy Package to the pipelines, going to EU from third countries, i.e. Nord Stream 2, dpa reported on Monday, October 23, DW reports. EC wants to submit this proposal on November 8.
The EU’s Third Energy Package, in particular, stipulates that the gas supplies is not entitled to own main pipelines on EU territory. It also requires from gas pipelines owners to provide access to transport capacities of other companies.
Since the beginning of the year, EC attempts to obtain mandate from EU member countries for negotiating the terms of operation of Nord Stream 2. It did not succeed in it yet.
Nord Stream 2 should be laid on the floor of the Baltic Sea near the already laid Nord Stream 1in 2018 and commissioned in 2019.
The European Commission does not expect that the gas pipeline will be launched in 2019, as it is planned now, the interlocutor said to dpa.
