U.S. Senator Chris Murphy told about his impressions from visiting Ukraine, Correspondent.net reports quoting Voice of America.
“The purpose of my visit to Ukraine was “to find out more about the current conflict in Eastern Ukraine and how the United States can support their allies in Eastern Europe against increasingly aggressive Russia””, Murphy wrote in Medium.
It is noted that during his trip, he delivered speech in Lviv Catholic University, and the students told him about corruption in Ukraine.
“Russia uses corruption, as it disrupts the support of Ukrainian national government, which attempts to unite the country for fighting with Russian intervention”, Murphy considers.
He also visited Yavoriv’s military base, where U.S. soldiers train Ukrainian infantry.
“It is fine to assess how efficiently our money are used for trainings”, the Senator noted and added that “the fight for the future of this country should be led by Ukrainians, not U.S. citizens”; however, some modest investment in trainings are “the large dividends for regional security”.
It was previously reported that almost 86% Ukrainians are disappointed with fighting against corruption.
