UK authorities consider the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russian businesspersons, The Sunday Times reports.
After poisoning the former Russian spy Sergei Skrypal and his daughter Julia in last month, Theresa May considers the options of response measures, including pressure on Russian money in UK and new sanctions, the edition reports.
The publication reports that U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions against 24 Russian businessmen and officials as well as against financial institutions and private companies, associated with the Kremlin.
As the result, for one day, the richest Russian businessmen from Forbes list lost over 12 bln dollars.
In its turn, UK-based financier Bill Browder, who ran campaign for sanctions against Russia due to the death of the lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in prison, reported to the edition that nothing happened after poisoning in Salisbury.
“And now, when U.S. imposed serious important sanctions, which really beats Putin between his eyes, if Theresa May does not follow this example, it will unfold the carpet strip for future incidents from Russians, such as in Salisbury”, the edition quotes its words.
The publication mentions Oleg Deripaska and Viktor Vekselberg, against whom U.S. imposed tough sanctions, as well as Kirill Shamalov, Vladimir Bogdanov, Suleiman Kerimov, Igor Rotenberg and Andrei Skotch, as those, who can “pack their rubles”.
