During 10 years, Facebook transferred users’ personal data to at least 60 smartphone producers, among which are Apple, Samsung and Microsoft, The New York Times reports.
The journalists state that Facebook opened for smartphone producers the access to clients’ personal information, and, moreover, to their friends’ data.
Including the information about political views, religious preferences, relationship status etc.
It happened even in the case if the users banned data exchange in privacy settings.
Facebook already refuted NYT’s information.
“The partner companies could not use the functions of Facebook on users’ devices without their consent. Despite The New York Times claims, the information of friends, including the pictures, is available only on the devices, whose owners agreed to share this information”, Ime Archibong, Facebook's Director of Product Partnerships noted.
If this information is confirmed, then it will occur that the company violated the rules of the Federal Trade Commission, according to which it should ask users for permission to use their data.
It should be reminded that previously it was found that Cambridge Analytica used personal data of 50 mln users of Facebook for targeting the political advertisement.
